Forty-eight homes around a courtyard with a circular pool, in the middle of Mallorca. A development that reads as a village rather than an estate.
Villafranca de Bonany is an inland village with no coast and no passing tourism, where homes are still bought to stay in. The project starts there: 48 homes that had to multiply the density of a village house many times over without reading as an apartment block dropped into the countryside. Rendered facades in pale tones, wooden shutters, roofs in Arabic tile.
The blocks do not line up along the street: they close around a planted courtyard with a circular pool. That void is what turns 48 front doors into a place where people meet. The homes are dual aspect and the upper floors are reached by external stairs, so there is not one enclosed landing in the whole development.
